Overview

The Barn on Lake Shore is a privately owned Deep Creek Lake vacation rental home, with lake access and a private dock available for your use. Use our 15ft. canoe, bring your own boat, or rent one for the day/week from a local marina and keep it at your own private dock. Large dock in quiet cove is great for sunbathing or swimming. We have the dock in the lake from May first until October first. The dock must be ‘pulled’ through the cold months. If you would like to have the dock out for visits in April or October call and we will see if we can accommodate you.

Located close to all Deep Creek Lake activities but tucked away in 3 acres of woods so you can get away from it all. Watch for deer as you enjoy breakfast from your screened in porch. Share quiet nights sitting around your campfire roasting marshmallows, we provide the firewood!

Each bedroom has a queen sized bed and a twin bed. There is additional queen sized Murphy bed in the great room.

We received an inquiry asking a question about ‘lake access.’ It has occurred to me there may be some confusion about the lake proximity to our house, and the name we use for our place may have added to this. Our house is ‘The Barn on Lake Shore’ because the address is on Lake Shore Drive, and we chose to build with the look of a barn (this was in homage to a local landmark, a sway back stone barn around the corner on Mayhew Inn road), it is NOT on the shore of Deep Creek Lake. I chose this name for the cute factor, not to deceive anyone.

Our property is NOT lake front. To get to our dock you walk down the middle of our property and cross the road, go down our deeded and wooded 15 foot right of way between two lake side houses. We all find it a pleasant walk and the view of our cove sitting on the dock and its landing is lovely and very private. We don’t have what I could call a lake view from our house. In the summer you can some time see a glimmer of the lake, when the trees are bare in the winter a little more but that’s about it. What we do have is lots of private woods.
No one in the past has ever complained but,we would rather have fewer inquires or renters than have any of our guest be disappointed in our place.

We have tried to make our property pet and kid friendly with casual no-worries decor. It is not small child-proof however, the second floor which contains the living space, has large, low windows, and will require close adult supervision. The back porch has 13 steps. The interior stairs are 17 steps to the living space they are equipped with a stair lift, hand rails, and hand grips. Hand grips are also in the full bath shower and commode this may be of interest to persons with limited mobility.

We like to cook and you will find a well equipped kitchen. Cooking for a crowd? We supply the pots. All doors and shelves are labeled to make life easy for you. Check out our amenities and a detailed inventory in the tab above.

Climbing on stonework of barn would be dangerous is forbidden..

Close to Deep Creek Lake State Park, Swallow Falls State Park, Herrington Manor State Park, WISP Resort, miniature golf, go-karts, restaurants (you can go by boat!) and movie theater.

Cell phones usually will NOT work on the property but don’t worry, all local and long distance calls from the house are included

Please bring your own bed linens and towels. Washer and dryer are provided. We can arrange for linens to be delivered for your visit at a cost of $70. Firewood for fire pit and wood stove is provided.

Hear what makes The Barn on Lake Shore a favorite for Deep Creek Lake Visitors!

We had an awesome time at The Barn on Lake Shore.

This was our first trip without our boys, ages 20 and 23, since they were born so in essence our first trip alone since at least 1993. We did take our two canine babies, Ovie and Haven.

Enough about us, this home is spectacular. The photos do not do it justice. It is spotless and well stocked. There are lots of labels and also lots of notes that answer any questions you may have. Even the woodstove was ready to go, already stacked up with wood, it just needed a match! I really enjoyed the old time peppermint candy as well! It was so nice being in a home with everything instead of a hotel room with minimal amenities and lots of neighbors.

The Doherty family has thought of everything. You can sense that they really want you to have a good time and we did. Our dogs enjoyed it, especially the low windowsills (we trimmed their nails before we came) because they love to see what is going on and our visits to the state parks. The Deep Creek Lake area is stunning. Saturday was a sunny day so we got to see the full splendor of the area.

We would not hesitate to recommend The Barn to anyone and everyone. In fact, we will be returning soon!!! A huge thank you to the Doherty family for sharing your beautiful home with us!

As I have said in my other to reviews you CAN NOT find friendlier people or a nicer place.

They have everything including the KITCHEN SINK :).

It is in my opinion 10 stars. I will see you again in the spring.

Had a nice weekend!

House was very clean and the kitchen was well stocked. Owners went out of their way ensuring we had a nice weekend. Everything was labeled (and I mean everything) 🙂 to make sure you could find anything you needed. Wouldn’t hesitate renting it again!

If you are there to ski, considering driving to Timberline (1 hour south) for a nice change of pace in case you get bored with Wisp.

Great home and great hosts, to go along with the Deep Creek ambiance.

The dock and swimming are a few steps away across the road and down a short path.

The trees and quiet here are worth the price of admission.

This is our 2nd year staying here and it was just as good this year as last. Owners are VERY FRIENDLY & HELPFUL. If you forget something they will probably have it. The camp fires at nite were alot of fun and we made s’mores. I only have 2 regrets 1) we only stay a week, 2) you have to bring your own food. I wish I would have found this place sooner BUT I know about it now and will be staying here every year we come here. Thanks Florence!

Wonderful!!!!!!

We had a wonderful stay at The Barn on the Lake Shore. Everything was great. The house was very clean and very well stocked. It was amazing everything that they had for you to use. You could not asked for anything more. The kids had a great time swimming and fishing off the dock and having the use of the canoe. In the evening everyone had a good time sitting around the campfire making s’mores. The owners are wonderful. Thank you for everything. We hope to be back next summer.

We had an excellent stay here. The home was beautiful! The kitchen was well stocked with the necessary cookware, cleaning supplies, and paper products. The only thing we needed to bring was our food and linens. We visited during the winter to go skiing at wisp. The slopes were less than 15 minutes away. We had 3 children and 3 adults, and we were all comfortable. The extra bed in the family room is not a typical extra bed. It was extremely comfortable. Definitely recommend it!

We stayed here the end of May EVERYTHING you could possible need is here.We were there for fishing and the location is right in the middle of good fishing. My Grandson-Son and I could not believe how big the place is,you could get lost in this place its so big.We have booked it for next year and we are looking forward to going there. The owners are very friendly and answered any questions we had most of the questions were about where is a good place to eat and where to buy food. I would recommend this to everyone I know ********** stars for this place!

I love this place!! My parents have known Jack and Florence for years and I went to school with their youngest son. I stayed a couple years ago in August for a week and there’s so much to and not time. Me and boyfriend stayed the weekend before thanksgiving and all though the slopes were still closed we had a blast we stayed for a romantic getaway and did some trail walks swallow falls if you haven’t been then go! In the summer you swim in the waterfalls. Jack and Florence have made their cabin a home away from home!! And their shower is to die for 🙂 she has labeled everything to make it easier to find(great idea) no searching. And the best part of staying is I could bring Brody my German shepherd lab puppy she even has dog crates small medium and large. She thought of everything you could need to make it a wonderful stay!!

We stayed here last summer for a week with our dog and had an amazing time. We thought that it was too good to be true at first, because the price was so low compared to others in the area. However, we were wrong, everything was better than expected. The house is nestled in the woods away from everything, it’s really the perfect place to get away and escape. It’s also perfect for those with dogs. They have plenty of room to run and play outside, and inside as well. The kitchen is huge and well stocked. They really did think of everything. The private dock is a short walk across the street. There is a fire pit outside that has plenty of fire wood to get you through the week, and a furnace in the living room as well. The screened in porch is also a nice size. I would highly recommend Barn on Lake Shore!

Simply The Best
I almost don’t want to tell you how superb this vacation rental was, I want to keep it all to myself! But seeing as I only get to Deep Creek for one week a year, I guess that would be pretty selfish of me. So now you know, VRBO world – this is the best rental you will ever find. Sure, there might be more luxurious homes out there. There are probably beautiful views of the lake to be had for several thousand dollars more. But if you’re not looking to empty your bank account and you want to deal with the nicest owners you’ll ever meet, book now.

The owners have literally thought of everything when it comes to this rental. Need a corkscrew? There’s several. Need an ice cream maker? Got it. Fire starters for the wood stove? Of course. Going in winter and need an extra sweater to go play in the snow? Yup, got those too. Heck, they even have scarves for your dog with the phone number of the cabin embroidered on them – just incase Fido wanders off! So many homes we’ve rented in the past look like they were stocked with the assorted few things that the owner could spare from their own cupboard at home. But the Barn on Lakeshore looks more like a home stocked and thought through by people who want you to vacation like they would want to vacation.

The property is quiet and secluded – with the autumn leaves falling we could glimpse just one neighboring home. Whether you want to enjoy the screened in porch, the fire pit or the newly installed gazebo – you’ll feel like you’re in the middle of the woods, far from everything and everyone else. If the lake is what you’re looking for (as was the case with our pup), just a short walk across the road will bring you to your own private lake access on a little cove. (A dock for the boats, a gentle sloping beach for the dogs to wade in.) And, of course, there’s a canoe to borrow along with plenty of life vests and oars!

I could go on typing, but really, words don’t do it justice. If you like to vacation with your furry friend and are looking for a rental that’s both comfortable and affordable, book this home now. Just leave the first week in June open – the wife and I are probably going to call dibs on that pretty soon!

All the Comforts of Home!
We have stayed at the Barn on Lake Shore twice, and each time has been terrific. They have a fully stocked house with everything from paper cups for the bathroom to a coffee maker to disposable tupperwares to take home leftovers. We had 3 adults and 3 children staying with us and were quite comfortable. The wall/murphy bed is incredibly comfortable. So much so, that my husband wrote the name of the mattress down and went home and bought one after the trip!! Not only is it more comfortable than a sofa bed, but unlike sofa beds, we could leave it out during our stay. It is a short (about 5-10 minute) drive to the ski slopes. The lake is right across the street. Since the winter was mild, my mother was able to take our 3 year old son for a walk to see the lake. She said it was a quick and easy walk. They also have a great screened in porch. Although we stay in the winter, I am sure it is great for spring, summer, and fall. I love that we could bring our dog. The owners even have tags with the lake houses’ information for you to use during your stay. The great room is very spacious. There was plenty of room for us all to sit and enjoy a movie. This was our second time here, but I am sure it won’t be our last.

Just what we needed….
My husband and I were in need of a mini-vacation, but couldn’t spend a lot of money. The weekend was perfect as it was indeed a relaxing getaway, that was reasonably priced…. and we could even bring our dog, Dexter. The house came equipped with everything you could have needed…. Mixers, quesadilla makers, back packs to use while there, tupperware to take home- EVERYTHING! I was a little hesitant that with the rental being ‘dog friendly’ that the house would be run down and not clean, but it wasn’t at all- the house was very clean and roomy enough for Dexter to run around. I don’t think the pictures online do the space justice. We enjoyed getting away from the real world- the house was tucked away in the woods, but close enough to the lake, falls and tons of trails… just minutes away. Dexter enjoyed all the outdoor activities. Overall, the weekend getaway was exactly what we needed.

A lovely and well-stocked home!
We had a lovely long weekend at the Barn on Lake Shore! This is an adorable house stocked with everything you could possibly need…the owners have thought of (and labeled) everything. The property is lovely…you feel as if you’re in the middle of the woods. But a short walk on a well-marked path leads you to the waterfront and the house is conveniently located to many of Deep Creek’s amenities. We took advantage of the firepit outside and had a blazing campfire every evening, no shortage of wood here. My brother, who loves to grill, was pleased to find a new Weber grill ready for him to use. There is plenty of parking for your boat trailer or guests. This is a modern, roomy and well-stocked vacation home! We plan to return next year!

We had a great stay at the Barn on Lake Shore. We came with our 3 month old, my parents, and our dogs. Unfortunately, we had a VERY rainy week, but we didn’t mind being stuck inside because it’s such a great house to be stuck in! Our stay was very relaxing and peaceful–just what we needed. We used the rain as a good excuse to watch movies, take naps, and play a lot of cards and board games. Florence, the owner, has provided EVERYTHING you could ever think of…even dog bandanas and dog blankets. It was very nice to go to a place that is so dog-friendly. The house is very cozy – the beds are comfortable, the decor is very cute, and the kitchen is extremely well equipped (and labeled!). We have stayed at many beach houses and vacation houses and this was by far the all-around best equipped. The area around the house is very woodsy and provides nice privacy, and there is a firepit where we cooked out a few times and had camp fires and roasted marshmallows and hotdogs. It’s a short walk down to the dock. It’s peaceful just sitting by the water. We tried fishing and even took the canoe out. There are a lot of parks and hiking nearby, which was were able to do a little of when it stopped raining. We could’ve had better weather, but we couldn’t have had a better house. Thanks for a great vacation!

Highly recommend for winter vacation!!!!!!!!
My boyfriend and I have visited the Barn on Lake Shore twice so far and are planning on a 3rd trip very soon. It is such a warm and cozy place to relax and get away. Both of our trips have been during the winter season as we love snowboarding and skiing. The home is within 10 minutes of the Wisp Resort which made for an easy commute to the slopes! On our 1st trip there , we were snowed in for a day from a big storm that had come through overnight (although, the road crews in the area were fantastic and the horseshoe driveway to the house was even personally cleared for us in no time), but with the wonderful amenities at the house we had plenty of entertainment in the mean time. The owners have a wide selection of games (even an air hockey table in the garage!) and the large flat screen tv in the great room made for awesome movie nights. After a long day on the slopes it was so nice to come back and warm up with a cup of hot chocolate by the wood stove. Dinners were amazing with every specialty kitchen appliance you can think of, including a quesadilla maker which I have to say won my vote night after night. This rental property is spacious and beautiful and has everything you could ever think of to kick back and forget it all on a brisk winter getaway! I strongly recommend for ANYONE!

My husband and I, along with our five children, just finished a stay at this property on Lake Shore Drive. Boy, were we surprised and impressed! The home is nestled back from the road and is on a stunning lot. Everything inside is brand new! Everything is on the second floor, except a half bath and some storage. The kitchen houses all the utensils, cups, bowls, plates, and makers one can imagine. It has granite countertops, pine cabinets and flooring, and stainless steel appliances. Everything is labeled for easy access. The living room hosts a Franklin stove and large, comfortable couch. There is a Murphy bed that comes down from the wall, if needed. The bathroom is gorgeous with about 12 feet of shower space, all stone tiled–my kids didn’t want to come out! The bedrooms are comfortable and nicely appointed. Off the kitchen is a large screened porch, great for early morning coffee with someone special or just relaxing by oneself while viewing deer and birds of all types in the forest. We cooked dinner in the firepit, and we fished off the pier just across the road. The place was so peaceful! The towns around Deep Creek Lake are very small–some one street and others a few intersections. The parks are pristine and great for swimming, kayaking, or picnicking. We could have stayed much longer. Everyone we met was very friendly. This is a great place for singles, couples, families, or retirees. No one will be disappointed!
